Aric William Krause Appointed Dean for Academic and Administrative Affairs for Rensselaer at Hartford

In a memo to the campus, President Shirley Ann Jackson announced that Aric William Krause has been appointed dean for academic and administrative affairs for Rensselaer at Hartford, effective March 6.

Krause has over 15 years of experience in higher education as an administrator and faculty member. In his most recent position, he served as the vice provost and dean of the graduate school for the University of Maryland, University College campus. The University College Graduate School enrolls over 13,000 students with a faculty of 1,300. In addition, Krause has served as a member of the President’s Cabinet and the Academic Affairs Leadership Team at University College.

Prior to joining the University of Maryland University College, Krause was dean of the Division of New Learning at Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah. Over the last 10 years, he has built innovative academic undergraduate and graduate programs for delivery to adult learners in both the United States and in international markets. As part of that experience, he has worked with international partners in Europe, South America, and Asia.

Krause has had a successful career in the implementation of competency-based undergraduate and graduate programs in business, communications, and health sciences, and non-credit executive development programs delivered to corporations in the United States and internationally. In addition, he has delivered academic summer programs for multiple populations, and international partnerships for faculty and student exchanges.

He received a Ph.D. in economics from Colorado State University, a master’s degree in economics from DePaul University, and a bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served a total of 10 years in both active-duty and reserve statuses. As an educator, Krause received the “Excellence in Teaching Award” from the College of Liberal Arts, Colorado State University, as well as “Outstanding Graduate Student Teaching” award from the Department of Economics, Colorado State University.
