The Lally School of Management will host the first in a series of supply chain and analytics events with “Integrating Physical and Digital Supply Chains: A Cross-Industry Perspective.” The event will be moderated by T. Ravichandran, the Irene and Robert Bozzone ’55 Distinguished Professor and associate dean for research at Lally.
The guest speaker is Peter Vanderminden ’78, industry manager of manufacturing and supply chain (retired) at Microsoft. He will discuss how businesses are increasingly considering the “Internet of Things” (IoT) product enablement to implement connected supply chains. IoT is a scenario in which objects, animals, or people are provided with unique identifiers and the ability to transfer data over a network without requiring human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction. The results can include better inventory management and support of rapidly evolving service business models which can reduce costs.
Vanderminden is a widely recognized thought leader in the “Internet of Things” and supply chain management practices. Now an independent consultant, he works with companies in the industrial manufacturing, transportation, and health-life sciences sectors to integrate physical and digital supply chains for IoT enablement.
The event will be held at the Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies auditorium, and is open to the campus and Rensselaer community. To register, go to https://apply.rpi.edu/register/SCSSVanderminden.
