On Saturday, Feb. 14, over 400 alumni, faculty, staff, students, parents, and community members gathered at the Heffner Alumni House for the Big Red Freakout Ice House.

The annual Ice House tradition, held in conjunction with the Big Red Freakout hockey game, features a buffet dinner and pep rally, complete with visits from Puckman and the RPI Pep Band, along with face-painting and “tattoo” services provided by the Red & White Student Organization. Fans were invited to return to the Heffner Alumni House post-game for drinks, desserts, and snacks, and the chance to meet the team and coaching staff.

This year’s Freakout and Ice House featured a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the 1994-95 ECAC Hockey Championship team, as well as the 30th anniversary of the 1984-85 National Championship hockey team. Members of both teams were in attendance at Ice House, and were recognized between periods of the RPI vs. Yale hockey game. The 1994-95 ECAC champions were represented by 15 former players—led by their captain, Adam Bartell ’95. Members of the 1984-85 team who returned included nine former players, including John Carter ’86, who became the eighth inductee into the Rensselaer Hockey Ring of Honor.

A men’s hockey alumni reunion also took place during Freakout weekend. More than 70 former players returned to lace up their skates for the annual alumni game, and to reconnect with teammates. They met the current coaches and team, and were feted in an on-ice ceremony during the game.
