Celebrating Service

Human Resources recently hosted the 44th annual Service Recognition and Retirement Dinner at the Hilton Garden Inn. Employees who have completed service in five-year increments were honored, as well as employees who retired during the last fiscal year.

“This evening, we recognize 211 men and women—current as well as retired Rensselaer employees—whose energy, wisdom, and vision we long have relied upon. Their combined service, in fact, totals 3,443 years,” said President Shirley Ann Jackson in her remarks. “Indeed, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute always has inspired such commitment. It is a very unique institution of higher learning that has pioneered, from its founding, new teaching methods that made students active participants in their education, and that has championed, throughout its history, emerging fields of great promise to humanity. As a result, our alumni, alumnae, and faculty consistently have innovated and discovered in ways that have changed the world—and a Rensselaer education always has been in high demand. This year, so many of the students whom we accepted, decided to enroll, that we now have the largest freshman class in our history, with over 1,700 young men and women.”

“This annual Employee Service Recognition and Retirement dinner provides an opportunity to formally thank our staff for their service, commitment, and contributions to Rensselaer,” said Curtis Powell, vice president for human resources, at the ceremony. “After 192 years, Rensselaer continues to be recognized as a world-class technological research university that has consistently ranked among the top 50 U.S. universities based on the U.S. News & World Report.”
