President’s Holiday Concert
The 2015 President’s Holiday Concert will be held on Sunday, Dec. 13, at 3 p.m. in the Curtis R. Priem Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC) Concert Hall. The annual event, a Rensselaer tradition, features performances by the Rensselaer Orchestra and Concert Choir under the direction of Arts Lecturer Nicholas DeMaison. This year, the student musicians will again be joined onstage by members of the Albany Symphony for a collaborative, side-by-side performance.
The Rensselaer Concert Choir will perform selections of choral folk music, and then will be joined by the Rensselaer Orchestral Brass for old-world antiphonal favorites by Palestrina and Gabrieli. Following intermission, the Orchestra, with members of the Albany Symphony, will perform Antonin Dvorák’s Symphony No. 9, “From the New World,” composed in 1893 while Dvorák was the director of the National Conservatory in New York City. The concert will last approximately 90 minutes, and is free and open to the public.
President Shirley Ann Jackson invites all faculty, staff, and students to attend a campuswide seasonal celebration on Monday, Dec. 14. The festive celebration will be held 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the East Campus Athletic Village Arena. There will be live entertainment and lunch will be served.
