President Jackson has initiated a national search for the position of dean of the School of Engineering. The dean is responsible for leading the School of Engineering into national and international prominence through the pursuit of excellence in research and educational programs.

She has announced that the following individuals have agreed to serve as members of the Core Recruitment Committee: Thomas Begley, dean of the Lally School of Management, co-chair; John Kolb ’79, vice president for information services and technology and CIO, co-chair; Kristin Bennett, professor of mathematical sciences; Michael Ciminera ’59, chair of Engineering Advisory Council; Joe Chow, acting administrative dean of engineering and professor of electrical, computer, and systems engineering; Jim Hendler, director, The Rensselaer IDEA; Shawn Kantor, professor and department head of economics; Charles Malmborg, professor of industrial and systems engineering; John Tichy, professor of mechanical, aerospace, and nuclear engineering; and John Wen, department head of industrial and systems engineering and professor of electrical, computer, and systems engineering.

“While the Core Recruitment Committee will have the principal responsibility for identifying the highest quality candidates for this position, the efforts of the entire university community are needed in attracting the best candidates,” President Jackson said. “I enlist your assistance in this most important process. I have asked Curtis Powell, vice President for human resources, to work with Co-Chairs Thomas Begley and John Kolb ’79 and the Core Recruitment Committee to present a slate of recommended candidates during the upcoming 2014 spring semester.”
