The Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies

The talk, “Cultivating Art and Science Sensibilities: Bioart + Biotech,” will be held on Wednesday, April 23, from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Bruggeman Conference Center at CBIS.

The campus community is invited to join four artists who work with a variety of scientific practices and disciplines for an informal discussion on artists working with scientists at the Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies (CBIS). The talk, “Cultivating Art and Science Sensibilities: Bioart + Biotech,” will be held on Wednesday, April 23, from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Bruggeman Conference Center at CBIS. The event is co-sponsored by CBIS and the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (HASS) Research Roundtable.

Kathy High, professor of arts, will lead the discussion. Speakers will include Steve Baker, an artist and art historian, and emeritus professor of art history at the University of Central Lancashire in England; Monika Bakke, an associate professor of philosophy at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poland; and Helen Bullard, an MFA candidate at Rensselaer.

Baker and Bakke are visiting campus as part of the HASS Earth Week Festival, and will be appearing as part of the Sensibilities Symposium on April 22 (full details in related story).

The HASS Research Roundtable is designed to facilitate cross-disciplinary work and cultivate collaborative practice across disciplines at Rensselaer and beyond. The event is being held during the regular CBIS Light Tea and Coffee Hour as one of an ongoing series of initiatives intended to develop interdisciplinary projects in architecture, humanities, arts and social sciences, and management.
