They say April is the cruelest month, but this year, we think February takes that honor. With record-breaking snowfall and temperature lows, the Rensselaer campus was snow-covered for much of the first half of the semester.

According to the National Weather Service, February 2014 was 3 to 6 degrees below normal across the local area. It goes down as the seventh snowiest February on record in Albany since 1885. Three powerful storms blanketed the area in snow—on Feb. 5, a daylong snowstorm dropped more than 10 inches on the area (resulting in a rare snow day for Rensselaer), then a Valentine’s Day storm delivered more than 20 inches, and the month ended with another 10 inches on Feb. 27.

The good news is that Spring Break starts after today’s last classes (March 7).
