Members of the Rensselaer ROTC branches of the Air Force, Army, Navy, and Marines gathered on the field at ECAV for Military Appreciation Day Nov. 9.

The Nov. 9 football game marked the annual Military Appreciation Day, held in conjunction with Veterans Day. Numerous events were set up by Rensselaer’s Reserve Officer Training Corps and the athletics department. All military personnel who provided their military ID received free admission to the game.

Prior to the game, which was the final home game of the season for the Engineers, the Joint Service Color Guard presented the colors, and cadets and midshipmen from Army, Navy, and Air Force ROTC sang the National Anthem.

At halftime, branches of the ROTC units competed in a spirited physical fitness relay competition. The day also included a 50-50 raffle to benefit the Reserve Officer Training Corps of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the Capital District.

Following the game, President Shirley Ann Jackson and Athletics Director Jim Knowlton (a veteran) spoke with the ROTC members on the field.

Another Military Appreciation Game will take place on Feb. 21 as part of the men’s hockey game against St. Lawrence University beginning at 7 p.m. Similar events will take place and discounted tickets are available for military personnel through the Houston Field House box office at 276-6262.
