CollegeSwimming.com has announced its 2016-17 Division III Pre-Season All-America selections and student-athlete Shanny Lin is among those listed. The junior was tabbed in the 200-meter butterfly.
As a sophomore, Lin earned National All-America in the 200 butterfly after finishing in fourth place at the NCAA Championship Meet—for the second consecutive season—with a time of 2:01.19. Throughout the course of the 2015-16 season, she set the 200 butterfly records for Robison Pool, Rensselaer, the Liberty League, the Upstate New York State Collegiate Swimming Association (UNYSCSA), and at the UNYSCSA Championship Meet.
The league and state champion in the 200 butterfly, Lin also swims the backstroke, freestyle, individual medley, and relays for the Engineers. She was the team’s top female scorer as an individual (18 firsts, two seconds, three thirds), while setting school records in the 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay, and the Robison Pool record in the 200 medley relay. She participated in the 200 individual medley and 100 fly at the NCAA Championship.
An electrical engineering major, Lin was Liberty League All-Academic, New York State All-Academic, College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America, College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District First Team, and CoSIDA National Academic All-America Women’s At-Large Third Team. She was also named the RPI Athletics Female Athlete of the Year.
Lin earned a team-high 356 points as a freshman, including 15 first-place finishes, five seconds, and four thirds. In addition to her fourth-place finish at the NCAA Championship Meet, she also swam in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly at the national event.
Rensselaer, which posted a school record 7-0 mark in dual meets last season, begins competition in mid-October.
