Latino HeriageThis exhibition is in honor of Latino Heritage Month and has been a tradition for the past decade in the Shelnutt Gallery.

The exhibition features paintings, drawings, prints, and sculpture from the Montalvo brothers, Christian and Antonio. Born and raised in Queens, N.Y., the Montalvos were encouraged in their love of art by their parents (originally from the Dominican Republic). After high school, they entered the venerable School of Visual Arts in New York City.  After graduation, they formed their own studio, Alpha Godz Entertainment. Their first independent release, “Optimum Donnie Bling-Bling,” was published in 2005 garnering critical acclaim. Through their studio, they have succeeded as storybook artists, graphic designers, and comic book storytellers.

Their original art in this show is inspired by their keen interest in the history of comic books, history, geography, and the political scene. Vibrantly colorful paintings are combined with black-and-white comic-book images resulting in a stimulating show.

Shelnutt Gallery is located in the Rensselaer Union on 15th Street in Troy. The show is co-sponsored by the Alianza Latina Club at Rensselaer.
