The Rensselaer women’s hockey team placed 20 student-athletes on the 2014-15 ECAC Hockey All-Academic team, leading the 12-school league. Rensselaer led the way, followed by Yale University (19) and Harvard University and Quinnipiac University (18 each).
Among Rensselaer’s honorees was senior goaltender Kelly O’Brien, who was selected to the Commissioner’s List, which is made up of the top scholars from each institution.
O’Brien is among seven engineering majors on the team; disciplines include biology, business and management, psychology, science, and sustainability studies. O’Brien and classmates Brianna
Piper, Kathryn Schilter, and Ali Svoboda were all recognized for the fourth time.
Players are eligible for the All-Academic team if they earn a cumulative grade point average of at least a 3.00 on a 4.00 scale, or have a GPA over 3.00 over the past three semesters.
The team is led by head coach John Burke, who is in his 13th season at Rensselaer. Christie Cicero was recently named as assistant coach for women’s ice hockey. Cicero joins Rensselaer from SUNY Canton, where she spent the past year working with all aspects of the women’s hockey program.
