“I’m most proud of the opportunity to share my college journey with my brother…[it’s] something I’ll carry with me forever.”

For Julio Rodriguez ’25, Commencement isn’t just a celebration of earning his bachelor’s degree in industrial and management engineering, it’s the culmination of a journey built on family, resilience, and a passion for soccer.

Hailing from Miami, Florida, Julio balanced a rigorous academic schedule with competing on the RPI men’s soccer team, sharing unforgettable moments alongside his older brother, Joaquin.

Why did you choose RPI?
I chose RPI because it was the school that believed in me academically and gave me the opportunity to grow as both a student and an athlete. What made it even more special was the chance to play alongside my big brother, Joaquin, on the RPI men’s soccer team. That combination of strong academics and a unique family connection made RPI the right place for me.

What’s your favorite RPI memory?
One of my favorite memories is my brother’s senior night. Our parents came to visit and were recognized for everything they did to help us get to this point. During the game, my brother assisted me on a goal, with our parents watching from the stands. It was a full-circle moment I’ll never forget. I’m forever grateful for that day.

What are you most proud of from your time at RPI?
I’m most proud of the opportunity to share my college journey with my brother — both as students and teammates. Competing alongside him while pursuing a challenging academic path made the highs even better and the tough moments easier to get through. The memories and bond we share are things I’ll carry with me forever.

How did RPI shape who you are today?
RPI taught me the importance of discipline, time management, and being fully present in everything I do. There was a semester where I was juggling six classes, work-study, and soccer. I had to plan every day carefully, stay organized, and be intentional with my time. That experience helped shape me into someone who can handle pressure, stay focused, and strive for excellence in everything I do.

What’s next for you after graduation?
After graduation, I’ll be moving to Lakeland, Florida, to begin a new role as an area manager at Amazon. I’m really excited about this opportunity and look forward to continuing to grow and learn in this new chapter.

What’s something people would be surprised to learn about you?
Most people would be surprised to learn that two of my favorite classes at RPI were Art of Songwriting and Positive Psychology. They gave me the chance to reflect, express how I felt, and be more mindful and grateful. It was a refreshing and meaningful break from my more technical courses and helped me grow as a person.
